SEO & Sitemaps

Last updated on March 25, 2026

Apoyo helps you capture organic search traffic by automatically optimizing your Help Center and Feedback Board for search engines. By generating dynamic sitemaps and allowing for custom metadata, you can ensure your public documentation ranks well on Google.

Key Features

  • Dynamic XML Sitemaps: Automatically generated and continually updated sitemaps for both your Help Center and Feedback Board/sitemap.xml/route.ts, app/feedback/[spaceId]/sitemap.xml/route.ts].
  • Custom Article Metadata: Manually define the URL Slug, SEO Title, and SEO Description for individual Help Center articles.
  • AI-Generated SEO: Automatically generate optimized SEO titles and descriptions using the built-in AI assistant.
  • Live Search Preview: See exactly how your article will appear in Google search results while you type.
  • Search Engine Directives: Built-in robots.txt configuration to guide search engine crawlers directly to your sitemaps.

How to Use

Accessing your Sitemaps

  1. Navigate to either the Help Center or Feedback Board tab in your dashboard.
  2. Click the SEO button near the top of the page to open the SEO & Discoverability panel.
  3. Locate the Dynamic XML Sitemap section. Click the Copy Link button to copy your sitemap URL.
  4. Submit this URL to Google Search Console to help search engines discover and index your pages.

Optimizing Individual Articles

  1. Open an article in the Help Center editor.
  2. Scroll down the right-hand sidebar to locate the Meta & SEO section.
  3. Enter a custom URL Slug, SEO Title, and SEO Description (up to 160 characters).
  4. To save time, click the Auto-Generate button (with the sparkles icon) in the section header. The AI will read your article and instantly write the metadata for you.
  5. Review the Search Preview box at the bottom of the sidebar to see how your metadata will look in search results.

Important Notes (or Pro Tips)

  • Premium Requirement: Search engine indexing and dynamic sitemap generation are only available for portals hosted on a Custom Domain. You must upgrade to a Premium plan to utilize these features.
  • Sitemap Caching: Both the Help Center and Feedback Board sitemaps (/sitemap.xml) are cached for 1 hour to maintain high performance. If you publish a new article or a user creates a new forum post, it may take up to an hour to reflect in the live XML file/sitemap.xml/route.ts, app/feedback/[spaceId]/sitemap.xml/route.ts].
  • URL Slugs: Slugs are automatically formatted to be URL-friendly (lowercase, spaces replaced with hyphens). If you leave the slug field blank when saving, the system will automatically generate one based on the article's title.
